Brainstorming and Vision
In a recent Transforming Leadership project measuring leadership skills in the categories of Vision, Alignment, and Execution, over 60% of the leaders in one organization FAILED in the category of Vision. That is, they fell well below the mark in their ability to create vision either in product creation or organizational vision.
Dr. Steff guides us through an interesting exercise in Visioning, and alerts us to the common pitfalls.
Visioning requires three basic steps:
- Exploration – idea generation
- Boldness – willingness/courage to share
- Testing Assumptions – does the idea have merit
These steps must be taken in order, and the one leading the Visioning process must be strong enough to keep the team on track.
